Study programs

The IURS offers, jointly with the Department of Geography, a two-year graduate planning program that provides a comprehensive curriculum in urban planning: theory, practice and methods. It also offers a two-year MA specialization program in Urban and Regional Planning that can be studied in conjunction with other disciplinary graduate programs in the Faculty of Social Sciences and other faculties, such as Law and Business Administration. The program can be taken both in the research-oriented track (which includes submitting a MA dissertation) and the non-research track.

Graduate Degree (M.A.) in Geography and Urban and Regional Planning

The IURS offers, jointly with the Department of Geography, a two-year graduate program that provides a comprehensive curriculum in urban planning: theory, practice and methods. The program includes the core studies of urban and regional planning (planning theory, planning procedures, planning law), applied studies (real estate, planning programs and land policy, urban design, studios, urban clinic, transportation planning, social planning), and a wide array of urban inter-disciplinary courses. Geography studies include theoretical corpus of urban geography and other relevant domains, along with methodological studies (geoinformatics, statistics, research methods). The degree qualifies its graduates to work in urban and regional planning, other realms of urban policy, and research careers in urban and regional studies.

Teaching staff includes Hebrew University faculty members, along with leading experienced professionals from the public and private sectors.

MA specialization program in Urban and Regional Planning

The IURS offers a two-year graduate specialization program in Urban and Regional Planning that can be studied in conjunction with other disciplinary graduate programs in the Faculty of Social Sciences and other faculties, such as Law and Business Administration. The program can be taken both in the research-oriented track (which includes submitting a MA dissertation) and the non-research track.

The specialization, with two required supplemental courses, encompasses the core studies of urban planning. Though the scope of urban and regional studies in the specialization is limited compared to the full program in geography and planning, its graduates gain another field of knowledge that is often synergistic with the planning profession. This integration opens unique opportunities, in both the theoretical realm and the job market.

MA specialization program in Urban and Regional Studies

The IURS offers a two-year MA specialization program in Urban and Regional Studies that can be studied in conjunction with other disciplinary graduate programs in the Faculty of Social Sciences and other faculties, such as Law and Business Administration. The program offers basic knowledge of urban studies and urban planning, as a complement to the major graduate program. It does not require supplemental courses, and is especially suited for students who wish to gain access to the world of urban and regional planning without a substantial increase in course load.
